Our rates include unlimited mileage from Algarve. In addition, the following items are included in our car hire rates. This information is for general guidance only since many items may depend on the specific vehicle type you wish to hire in Portugal.

All required car hire insurances

All required car hire insurances like 3rd party responsibility, CDW (Collision Damage Waiver), TW (Theft Waiver) and Bail Bond (where applicable) are included in our car hire rates. The vehicle's car hire insurance is subject to an insurance excess value :

When you collect the car hire at Algarve, you'll be asked to leave a credit card deposit to the value of the car hire excess : (Depending on the type of car you select) between EUR 750.00 and EUR 1250.00. Providing you return the vehicle undamaged at the end of the car hire, this value is returned to your credit card in full. In the unlikely event that you damage the car hire vehicle, your maximum liability is limited to the car hire insurance excess value. The insurance excess for each car at Algarve is explained in detail in our section What's Not Included?

Local car hire taxes & delivery charges.

Our car hire rates at Algarve are fully inclusive of local sales taxes (18.00% in Portugal).

Arrival times for your car hire.

Our car hire rates include collection of your car hire inside normal office hours at Algarve.

The following items are not included in our car hire rates for Algarve car hire.

Fuel is not included at Algarve!

The fuel that you consume during your car hire is obviously not included in our our published car hire rates! On arrival at the Algarve car hire station, you will collect the car hire vehicle with a full tank of fuel against a credit card deposit. At the end of the car hire, return the car hire vehicle with a full tank to Algarve to get a refund.

Insurance Excess deposit.

As explained above in What's Included, the car hire vehicle's insurance at Algarve is subject to an car hire insurance excess deposit (depending on the type of car hire vehicle you select) between EUR 750.00 and EUR 1250.00. Providing you return the car hire vehicle undamaged, this value is refunded to your credit card in full. In the unlikely event that you damage the car hire vehicle, your maximum liability is limited to the deposit paid.

Lost car hire vehicle keys.

Vehicle keys are chip-coded and are costly and timely items to replace. If you lose the car hire vehicle's key, you will be obliged to pay for its replacement (approximately EUR 120.00) plus any associated transport costs in connecting you with a new vehicle key. More importantly, your holiday car hire at Algarve may be seriously affected while you wait for a new key to be prepared for your car hire vehicle. Please take good care of the car hire vehicle key while you're on holiday in Portugal!

Using the wrong fuel type for your car hire vehicle.

Putting gasoline into a diesel car (or vice versa) requires the engine to be stripped down and cleaned. If you put the wrong fuel into the car hire vehicle at Algarve, expect a hefty garage bill and several days with your car "off-the-road" while the car is repaired.

Blow-outs are at your own risk

If you have a puncture during the rental the car hire company will hold you responsible for the repair/replacement cost. All our cars are delivered with a road-worthy set of tyres which are inspected prior to each delivery. Typically, bad parking or driving off-road are the most common causes of punctures during a rental period.

Off-road or negligent use.

Our car hire vehicles at Algarve are rented for use on the public highways of Portugal. They cannot be used off-road. Although a very rare ocurrance, we'd like you to be aware that damage to the underside of the car hire vehicle, frequently caused by negligent driving or off-road use at Algarve (we have had occasion to have to lift car hire vehicles out of dried-up river beds!) is your responsibility. Drunk driving a hire car is considered negligent use.

Traffic fines.

Traffic fines, speeding tickets incurred at the wheel of your car hire vehicle at Algarve are at your own risk.

Vehicle glass & locks.

It is a sad reality that in most holiday resorts in Portugal, auto-theft is a day-to-day ocurrance. If you park up the car hire vehicle with personal items inside and, as a consequence, the glass or locks are damaged in an attempt to steal your personal effects, you will be responsible for the associated repair costs to the car hire vehicle. We strongly recommend that you park the vehicle in supervised car parks/garages in the major cities and never leave any personal item inside the car hire vehicle.

Damage to the vehicle's underside.

Damage to the vehicle's underside is the responsibility of the renter. Although a very rare ocurrance, damage caused by driving off-road, impacts from rocks or other items to the underside can cause considerable damage to the vehicle. If this situation arises, you will be responsible for the repair costs.

The following items can be added to your car hire reservation for Algarve in Portugal :

Baby Seats

Baby seats are suitable for new-born babies until approximately 6 months of age. Baby seats are normally available on car hire vehicles from Algarve on request. There is a charge of EUR 20.00 per week for these seats which is payable on arrival at Algarve. You must reserve babyseats at the same time as you reserve your car hire.

Child seats

Child seats are suitable for young children from approximately 6 months of age until 2-3 years of age. Child seats are supplied for car hire vehicles from Algarve on request. There is a charge of EUR 20.00 per week for these seats which is payable on arrival at Algarve. You must reserve babyseats at the same time as you reserve your car hire.

Booster Seats

Booster seats are suitable for young children from approximately 2 years until 5 years of age. Booster seats are supplied for car hire vehicles from Algarve on request. There is a charge of EUR 20.00 per week for these seats which is payable on arrival at Algarve. You must reserve babyseats at the same time as you reserve your car hire.

Additional Drivers

You may add additional drivers to your car hire on arrival in Algarve. These are payable locally at Algarve at EUR 20.00 per rental.

Buy-out of the Vehicle's Insurance Excess

The car hire vehicles at Algarve are sold with an insurance excess. This is explained in the section Whats's Not Included? above.

Instead of leaving a credit card deposit to cover your car hire insurance excess at Algarve, you may opt to purchase additional insurance locally to "buy-out" the excess value - effectively removing your liability for vehicle bodywork damage. This option, depending on the car hire vehicle selected, costs between EUR 7.00 and EUR 14.00 per per day. You do not need to prebook insurance excess buy-out, simply decide and pay locally on arrival at the car hire station in Algarve when you arrive in Portugal.

Purchasing insurance excess buy-out is not a "licence to kill" and you will still be responsible for items like tyre, wheel, glasss or damage to the underside of the car hire vehicle. The car hire company may still require you to leave a credit card imprint to cover extensions to your car hire contract or traffic fines. See our section What's Not Included for further details.

Cross border charges

You can take your car hire vehicle from Algarve to tour outside of Portugal. Vehicles rented at Algarve can visit Spain but require additional insurance as follows

60.00 EUR (per rental)

You must however return to the car hire company station specified on your car hire voucher in Portugal at the end of the car hire period. You may not rent vehicles one-way from Portugal, leaving them in another country.

When we confirm your car hire reservation at Algarve, you'll receive via e-mail containing a link to your car hire voucher providing full details on how to collect your car hire vehicle at Algarve. Just follow the link to print out your own confirmation at home. As a global car hire supplier, we often work with more than one car hire company at each airport in Portugal so, even if you have travelled with us before, you should still check carefully the details shown on our car hire confirmation.

Walk-in city centre office. On arrival at Algarve, please proceed to the city centre office at the address we indicate on your car hire voucher. Please check your car hire voucher for specific details.

We accept both Prepaid car hire reservations (paid via a direct banking link at the same time that you make your car hire reservation) or Direct Payment Bookings, where you pay for the car hire on arrival at Algarve. Paying up-front fixes the rental price for your car hire at Algarve and also reduces the stress on your credit card's credit limit when you are actually on holiday in Portugal! Please note that payment locally is not accepted using debitcards or cash.

In the event that you need to cancel a prepaid car hire reservation, you'll receive a same-day confirmation of your car hire cancellation and a penalty-free refund. Please read the section below titled 'Cancellation' regarding our car hire cancellation policy.
